Shimla is a queen of Himachal Pradesh and its best known for best tourist place in Himachal. So here are some interesting places to visit while travelling to Shimla. In Shimla you will get Best Scenery, Pleasant Weather, Valleys and Forests. Most of the visitors have Shimla as their first priority and it is all because of its climate and the beauty of Shimla. How to Reach

Shimla is 96 Kms from Chandigarh. The Best way or fastest way to reach Shimla from Chandigarh by Bus. It will take 03:30 hrs to reach Shimla. Other way to reach Shimla is by Toy Train which will give you best view and make your trip more adventurous. Time taken by Train to reach from Chandigarh to Shimla is 05:30 hrs. Costing of Bus is 155 to 500 and train fare is 75 to 100. You can even book cab it will cast around 1000 or you can check in Blah Blah App if someone is going to Shimla you can join them. Costing of Blah Blah is depends upon how they have mentioned fare.

But I prefer Train over Bus, Cab or Blah Blah. These all costing is one-way if you are setting up budget please double the price. Yes if you are coming from other State their is a nearby Airport in Shimla which is Jubbarhatti Airport, 23 kms from the Shimla. Travelling hours may vary  with driving habit or weather conditions.

Places to Visit in Shimla

1. The Ridge

The first place that is near to bus stand is The Ridge. You can start your journey with The Ridge. Ridge is about 1.5 Kms from New Bus Stand. Ridge is largest open space located in Shimla. You can take local bus from New Bus Stand to Old Bus Stand it will cost 10-15 rupees only. When you reach Old Bus Stand you can start walking from Lakar Bazar or Mall Road to Ridge. Here you can see the Bakar Bazar Market which is one of the famous Market in Shimla. This market have food courts as well as Shopping stores. 

You can visit famous Kali Bari Temple in the middle of the journey to The Ridge, so do visit the temple.

If you are travelling with your vehicle let me tell you, Vehicles are not allowed in Ridge so it is better to park your vehicle in parking area and walk through the Mall Road to The Ridge. Here you can spend time and explore markets. Horse Riding is also available at Ridge and the costing is 100 rupees for 2 Kms. Photographers are also available on Ridge  which will provide you Shimla Dress for the Shoot and the charges for one photo with costume is 100 rupees.

While exploring The Ridge you will find many food courts and visiting places like K Dev Bhoomi Wax Museum and other shopping malls. The entry fees of Wax Museum is 250 per person.

2. Christ Church

Christ Church is in The Ridge. It is the second oldest church in the North India. The time to visit Christ Church is 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM. It is exactly over the Ridge. You'll not need to seach it is directly visible main Ridge area.

3. Jakhu Temple

Add Jakhu Temple in your list after Christ Church. Jakhu Temple is one of the famous temple in Shimla. You can see Jakhu Temple Shri Hanuman Ji Statue from Mall Road. The statue is 108 feet in height. Their is a walking way from Ridge to Jakhu which is 7 Kms and will take 30-40 minutes to reach to the temple. Other way to reach temple by Cab. Cab will reach to Jakhu Temple within 15-20 minutes and costing of cab is 250 per person or can be more. You can even reach through  cable car ride which will cost you 500 rupees per person.

According to Ramayan Lord Hanuman was searching Sanjivani Booti to revive Lakshaman. Spend time with Lord Hanuman and be careful from Monkey's. They steal your sunglasses, bags etc. and in return they want you to give Bhog which is given by Pandit ji or that you have purchased. So be careful !!

4. Himachal State Museum

The Best Tourist place to visit is Himachal State Museum where people get to know about the old northern State. Museum will offer you calm and peaceful place to enjoy the beauty of the hills. The entry fees of Himachal State Museum is 20 per person for Indians and 100 per person for foreigners. If you want to use camera you have to charge for that and it will cost you around 50 for Indians and 100 for foreigners. For videography you have to pay 1500 with special permission.

5. Indian Institute of Advance Study

It is a research institute located in Shimla. It is also known as Viceregal Lodge. The distance of IIAS is from Shimla Bus Stand is 3 Kms. Take bus from Shimla to Baluganj that will be of 10 rupees per person . After that walk uphills for about 20 minutes.

After reaching, Their will be a entry fees to visit Advance Study that is 40 per person and if you just want to visit garden it will be 20 per person. The last ticket to visit Advance Study is at 4 PM so try to come early. Book Lovers can spend some time while other can click some pictures in Garden.

6. Kufri

After exploring Shimla in one day let's move forward to Kufri which is approx 15 Kms from Shimla. Kufri is famous for trekking and hiking. You can even enjoy delicious Pahari food in Kufri like Pahari Aloo Khatta, Besan Chill and Kheer Phoore. Kufri is more cooler than Shimla during the Winter months. The bus fare to reach Kufri from Shimla is 40 per person. 

In winter, Kufri is famous for Skiing as it has beautiful slopes and high altitude peaks. Horse Riding and Yak Riding can also be done in Kufri if you haven't  done it in Shimla. You can also visit Himalayan National Park which is an icon place in Kufri.

If you are a trekker do visit Mahasu Peak which is a trekking place in Kufri. From Mahasu Peak you can view Kedarnath and Badrinath Mountains ranges.

7. Tara Devi

Tara Devi Temple is most visited religious temple in Shimla. Although it comes before Shimla, but i'll give you a suggestion to visit it while returning from the trip. Take blessings of Tara Devi and end the trip. Tara Devi is about 11 Kms from the Shimla. To reach Tara Devi, their are special buses for Tara Devi or you can take bus from Shimla to Shoghi and then Shoghi to Tara Devi.
